Profile
Market Harborough’s Phoenix Saxophone Orchestra is inviting sax players to join them for an all-day saxophone workshop led by professional saxophonist and composer, Mick Foster.
The workshop is open to all sax players and the cost is £30 per person including tea and coffee.
Mick will be focusing on music specifically written for the saxophone ensemble, including a brand new piece that Mick has composed especially for Phoenix. The playing level for the day is around Grade 4-5, but parts will be sent out in advance, so there’s no need to worry about sight reading.
Mick will also be providing lots of tips and advice on saxophone technique, musicianship and how to get the best out of your instrument.
Phoenix Saxophone Orchestra members play seven different types of sax, and workshop attendees will also have the opportunity to try out some of the giants of the saxophone family – the bass and contrabass sax.
Mick Foster is a professional saxophonist, woodwind player and composer, and is one of the UK’s foremost exponents of the baritone sax. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he now teaches. He also teaches at Goldsmiths’ College and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and is a tutor for the National Youth Jazz Collective. He has worked extensively in jazz, commercial and classical music, playing with household names including Johnny Dankworth, Dame Cleo Laine, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, the London Philharmonic and English National Opera.
