Race information
We know that you love running in the dark. Some of you prefer it in the morning and others at night. Well, you can do both!
The popular Night Run starts at 7.30pm on Thursday, 7th November and the Dawn Run at 6.30am on Friday 8th November. You can enter one or both of them.
Both routes take in the very long and very dark Oxendon Tunnel. At 422m long, the old railway tunnel really is an imposing sight and pitch black. So we’ve decided to light it (mood lighting only, you’ll still need a headtorch) and provide a unique opportunity for you to run through it ….and back again. The Dawn Run has the added bonus of a sunrise to enjoy too.
Entries
Entries will open soon, and the entry fees are £22 for a single race and £39 for both.
The minimum age for competitors is 14 years.
Entries, and transfer of entries, will close 7-days before the event.
Registration
If you would like to collect your race number/timing chip/pre-ordered race t-shirt before race day, you can do so on Wednesday, 6th November at Harborough Leisure Centre (LE16 9HF), between 6-8pm.
All other race numbers, timing chips, and pre-ordered race t-shirts, will be allocated on race day at registration. Further details will be provided in the race pack that will be emailed to participants the week of the event.
Start time/location
The start times are:
Night Run – 7.30pm (Thursday, 7th November).
Dawn Run – 6.30am (Friday 8th November).
The location of the start will be signposted from Northampton Road but is situated off Scotland Road, behind the Protheroes garage. If you are approaching from Northampton Road, the entrance is immediately on the right-hand side of Scotland Road before Rookwell Drive.
Parking is free at the nearby Leisure Centre (LE16 9HF).
On-course support
As with all Race Harborough events, there will be professional first aid on hand at the start and finish with the ability to access runners on the course. Race Harborough volunteers will also be out on the course, at the entrance to the tunnel, and the turn-around point.
Kit
The surface is suitable for road or trail shoes as it is hard packed track. You will need a head torch or small handheld torch to make your way through the tunnel in which the surface is a bit sketchy with quite a few ruts and puddles.
Prizes & treats!
There will be the usual prizes for the top 3 male and female finishers.
All finishers will receive a specially commissioned event medal. If you decide to do both runs, your medals will interlink. You will want both!
When you complete the Night Run you will also get a hot brew and biscuits; after the Dawn Run you will get a delicious glass of orange juice and a croissant. What could be better than that!
Race t-shirts
Short sleeved men’s and women’s technical t-shirts (£16) are available to purchase via Let’s Do This. These can be pre-ordered up to 3 weeks before the event. If you decide to log back in to amend your order (to order a t-shirt, not to edit details), then Let’s Do This will charge an additional card handling fee.
