Faulty dishwasher Siemens. Problem diagnosed and machine back to working after judicious use of a turkey baster! Full explanation of problem (leakage of water through seal into base of unit) and likelihood of recurrence (high).
New washer on order. Will be asking Mr Sanderson to remove old one and install new.
Costs a lot cheaper than Currys for removal of old and install of new which is £110 if you look at Currys website.
