Profile
The Brampton Valley Way is a 14 mile long linear park running from Little Bowden Crossing, Market Harborough, through attractive rolling countryside to Boughton Crossing, Northamptonshire. Great for walks and family bike rides.
The route follows the track bed of a disused railway, and so the good news is (for the less fit) it means there are no hills to climb!
Along the route. There are two tunnels which are great fun, especially with kids each approaching 500m long (Great Oxendon and Kelmarsh), but beware, they can be muddy and there is uneven ground along their length so don’t forget to take bike lights lights. There is also an alternative path for walkers and cyclist to take you around the tunnels.
Before first tunnel you will find a small ford (with low foot/cycle bridge), and numerous benches and a couple of picnic benches along the way. If you follow the BVW you will pass the Northampton and Lamport Railway, which is a preserved station and section of track which is host to evens across the year.
Cyclists : Due to the hawthorn hedgerows, punctures are not uncommon along the route. So it’s wise to bring a spare tube or puncture repair kit and pump, and avoid straying off the paved area where thorns can be lurking.
Did you know that the actor Russel Crowe cycled along the Brampton Valley Way and gave it his seal of approval!
