Directed by John Foreman
Quartet is a poignant and funny play set in a retirement home for people who have spent their lives working in the theatre – especially opera, but at the end of their careers find themselves relatively impoverished because they have always been ‘on tour’ and have no homes to retire to. The play was successfully adapted for film a number of years ago.
Annually the musicians put on an entertainment to mark the birthday of Guiseppe Verdi, the composer.
All is sweetness and light until the arrival of an opera star whose husband had died leaving her unexpectedly without a home and relatively impoverished. The play then follows the inter-personal relationships of the four characters while they are trying to find a way they could perform for the concert.
The Characters are Cecily, Reggie, Wilfred and Jean.
It’s quite a wordy play and I will need 2M, 2F probably 50-60 who we can age up a bit and are capable of learning a fair chunk of script.
Auditions will take place in November (9th, 12th 16th) with casting and read-throughs before Christmas and rehearsals starting in the New Year before performances in March.
If anyone would like more information or a script to read please contact me on 07870 582814 or by email (jc.foreman@btinternet.com)
These auditions are open to anyone, but if you are cast or become involved with the production in another capacity you will be asked to join the Market Harborough Drama Society.
