Bottle-kicking is an old Leicestershire custom that takes place in Hallaton village each Easter Monday. Records of bottle-kicking date to the late 18th century, but its believed that the custom originated much earlier and before Christian times.
The event is held on Easter Monday each year and consists of the following:
9.30 am – Parade through Medbourne – to wake the villagers
10am – Tug-of-war match between Ashley and Medbourne (at Ashley)
11am – Church service in Hallton
1.45 – Hare Pie parade from the Fox Inn, Hallaton
2.50 – Parade assembles in bottle kicking field, with the pie handed out to crowd before kick-off.
