Profile
Serves breakfast, lunch, drinks and coffee. A cafe, bar and restaurant offering British comfort food with an Asian twist in ‘Colonial Cuban chic’.
Fifty eight blends the simple happy go lucky spirit of Cuba with the British aesthetic of the Orient.
We are a global community with access to travel, cultures and food from all corners of the globe.
Fifty eight brings together this fusion with a nod to the happy go lucky character of Cuba blended with the understated British colonial aesthetic. The restaurant is influenced by the classic French bistro formula of delicious, freshly cooked daily changing menus in the dining room and casual snacks and sharing plates in the bar.
Great Britain is one of the most cosmopolitan, multicultural nations in the world with cuisine that reflects this diversity as does ‘Fifty Eight’ founder Tyrax, a British born Indian who has lived in France for many years where he opened his first restaurant.
British food has undergone a dramatic transformation since the 70’s when British food was a tawdry joke amongst most Europeans, except of course the Swiss.
French food has always had a reputation for excellence which is well deserved but unlike the French we do not believe in simply throwing butter or cream at a dish to add flavour. Spices, chilli and seasoning in the hands of a skilled chef can elevate any meal.
