Profile
Most people even with long-term health problems can safely see an osteopath. Osteopathic treatment focuses on the musculoskeletal system. All treatments are based on a carefully derived diagnosis which is in turn based on a patient’s case history and examination.
Osteopaths are highly trained and therefore use a lot of techniques to restore a well functioning musculasketal system, through their extensive knowledge of the underlying anatomical structures. Osteopaths understand the mechanisms of how structure governs function, therefore a global consideration is taken for each patient.
Osteopaths normally provide patients with exercises and other advice to help reduce pain and help the recovery process. A lot of these exercise also serve to help prevent recurrences where appropriate.
Depending on the nature of your complaint and your individual health, different treatment modalities are used. Osteopaths are highly trained manual therapists and use a variety of techniques including;
Soft Tissue
Inhibition
Stretching
Articulation
Traction
Manipulation
On your initial consultation I will take a full case history of your complaint and your general medical health. I will carry out an examination of your symptomatic area (which may require removal of some clothing). I will ask you to do some movements and I will palpate the affected area.
Other tests such as reflexes might be required.
I will then provide and explain your diagnosis and treatment options.
