Buildings and venues across the Harborough district are preparing to throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, culture and history, welcoming visitors as part of the national Heritage Open Days festival between 12 and 21 September.
This year’s festival theme is Architecture and is especially relevant as The Symington Building in Market Harborough undergoes a programme of renovation and restoration works. On 13 and 20 September visitors will be able to take a tour inside the former factory to learn more, see photos and film from the archives and hear about the corsets that travelled the globe.
Free activities and events people can take part in include a chance to wonder at the oldest windmill in Leicestershire, discover the origins of Foxton Locks, uncover the myths of a Masonic temple, see behind the scenes at Harborough Theatre and explore medieval church gargoyles and local archaeology test pits and more!
