When you think of an event to raise money and awareness of a charity, what do you think of?
Most people think of running a marathon, which is a pretty standard option. You may be wondering, however, if this is the best way to raise money for charity, especially if you are looking to raise a large amount.
The majority of charities rely on donations to make up 98% of their income so, if you care deeply about a charity, you will want your donation to count.
One option to look into (if you aren’t afraid of heights!) is skydiving, and here, you will be walked through exactly how that can help charities. Enjoy!
Raises Awareness
One way that skydiving events help charities to grow in their popularity and to raise awareness is that they pull in more people. Yes, marathons attract crowds, but there are so many marathons, that it can be easy for the public to lose track.
With skydiving there is usually more press coverage, and due to this, many charities aim to get as many people involved in the event as possible. So, if you want to raise awareness for a charity, like Macmillan, head to www.macmillan.org.uk to see if they have any skydiving events happening near you!
Raises More Money
Running a marathon does raise money for charity and has the added benefit of not needing a lot of equipment. However, the rental of equipment required to skydive can also be donated. If you need to pay £100 to rent a parachute, then there are organisations out there that can put that money to the charity of your choosing. This ensures that more funds are raised, and that the charity you support gets to continue.
It’s Exciting and Different!
OK, so it’s worth noting that there are people out there who get a thrill out of running marathons. There is nothing wrong with that! However, aside from the scenery of the trail you are running, it can get a bit boring to run or jog if you are a thrill seeker. By taking part in a charity skydiving event, you will certainly have fun, and it is ideal for thrill seekers. The fun you have at the event will have you talking about it to others, who may then want to take part in it to raise money too.
No Training Required
The idea of running a marathon (26 miles) or a half marathon (13 miles) is daunting to many people. Those aren’t small numbers, and it takes a lot of building up and training to reach a level where you can do it.
This can put people off, and when charities offer fundraisers the chance to take part in something fun, with no training required, that also raises a lot of funds, they will jump (quite literally) at the chance to do so. This helps charities and supporters to raise more money without needing to hit the gym months in advance to do so! So, participating in a skydive will be a great way to raise funds without hard work beforehand.
